Hi Sophie! Great updates - thorough, well-researched and nicely written

Loved the sound and vision of Somerset as it might have been!

Just some very late suggestions on the apple glut - which I also faced having received 7 crates from a friend!

You probably have these ideas already:

apple crisps: slice apples and put them in layers on a a baking tray and dry them in the over You can then bag them and keep them in the fridge or freezer. You can add them to salads etc

follow a recipe for apple jelly. Then, like me you will end up with something completely different! At one end of the spectrum a light apple syrup for mixing with cereal, yoghurt, or crumbled biscuits and cream!!! At the other a thick caramel you can dunk apples in to make something like your own rustic toffee apples..

experiment with apple jams: apple and cinnamon, apple and ginger, apple mint and curry jams are all great i have not yet tried apple and cloves but i think it would work well. A couple of Lavender flowers in peach jam create something very more-ish - I think lavender would also work with apple too!
